  • Chandler, E. H. Letter, 1861 May 30. 1 item. Location: Misc. Agent of R. F. & P. Railroad Company. Letter from Confederate Army Headquarters, Fredericksburg, Virginia, instructing Chandler to report to the mayor of Fredericksburg the arrival by railroad of all suspicious persons and to detain them for questioning by military authorities.   • Chandler, John Benjamin. Petition, 1849. 1 item. Location: Misc.:C.  A printed petition submitted to the First District Court of New Orleans on behalf of John Benjamin Chandler, the son and heir of Rachel Bannister. In his petition, Chandler claims Joseph Landis, the executor of the estate sold his inheritance of property and slaves in Orleans and Jefferson parishes, and misused of the proceeds. Mss. 5282.
  • Chandler, Thomas W. Papers, 1983-1985. 2.8 linear feet. Location: 48:22-23, OS:C. The collection contains materials gathered for Chandler’s landscape architecture thesis analyzing one-hundred ninety identified residences in Spanish Town, the oldest neighborhood in Baton Rouge, La. (established 1805).  The thesis was completed in 1985. The materials consist of completed and uncompleted questionnaires used to survey residents, audio tapes of interview with residents, color photographic prints and negatives of the residences, black & white photographic negatives and contact sheets, and black & white photographic prints used as illustrations in the thesis. Printed materials include items created for an exhibition associated with the thesis, three Spanish Town newsletters, and a “presentation copy” of the thesis itself.

Papers consist primarily of business correspondence, but also include photographs, plantation map, and a commemorative booklet printed after Chaney’s death.  The majority of the correspondence is from Benjamin Pring to Chaney reporting on the operations at Oneida Plantation in St. James Parish. Phanor Breazeale was an attorney, president of the Natchitoches Parish school board, a newspaper editor, and a U.S. congressman. Collection includes correspondence and related papers of Chaplin, Breazeale, and Chaplin.   • Charles, I. H. (Isaac Henry). Letters, 1841-1848. 10 items. Location: Misc:C. Charles moved with his family from Philadelphia to New Orleans in 1841. There he attended school and worked as a clerk in a commercial house. Letters to a cousin, John Edward Liddall, describe Charles' sea voyage to New Orleans; his secondary education in private schools in Louisiana; the presence of yellow fever; news of the War with Mexico; and reactions to a call for volunteers. Letter to Chase by Andrew White describes his journey from New Orleans to General Zachary Taylor's headquarters at Matamoros, Mexico (1846). Baton Rouge letters from other Chase associates deal with local people and events.   • Chase, John Churchill. Cartoons, 1927-1962. 10.6 linear feet. Location: 6:1-3. John C. Chase (1906-1986) was a New Orleans native and political cartoonist. The collection includes of 153 original 15 x 20" drawings of cartoons published in newspapers from 1949 to 1962. The cartoons reflect the political career of Huey P. Long, in addition to Louisiana and national politics. In addition to original drawings, the collection also contains five scrapbooks containing newsprint copies of the cartoons clipped from the original newspapers. Mss. 1414, 1549, 1568, 1806.
  • Chase, Philander, 1775-1852. Letter, 1840 Jan. 23. 1 letter. Location: Misc. Philander Chase was Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese of Ohio (1819-1831) and of the Diocese of Illinois (1835-1852). Chase in New Orleans, La., writes about his tour to solicit funds for Jubilee College in Robin's Nest, Ill., and the welcome he received in New Orleans from former students whom he had known while living there over 30 years before.   • Chatsworth Plantation store records, 1865-1893. 0.7 linear ft. Location: 33:33. Plantation in Louisiana purchased by the Gardere family in 1866 and managed by Fergus Gardere until 1895. Gardere also operated a cotton gin in partnership with Joseph Staring in the 1880s. Papers relate to the operation of the store and plantation at Chatsworth, and to the Gardere and Staring families.
