They consist of personal and family correspondence, legal papers of Nathaniel W. Fowler and John Slidell, writings, photographs, printed items, ephemera, and the travel journal of Charles Clark. The collection consists of personal papers, printed items, photographs, and badges relating to the activities of Daisy Kidd Clark, family members, and the genealogy of the Kidd family and allied Betz and Gruenwald families. Personal papers and printed items also include material that relates to the Delta Omicron fraternity, the American Hemerocallis Society, and the independent Order of Odd Fellows. Notable is a the sale of a sale of a ten-year-old mulatto girl who had been born to a slave imprisoned in the Louisiana Penitentiary, East Baton Rouge (May 4, 1861) and a 19th century Japanese print. An accomplished spinner and weaver in the Acadian tradition, Clark received numerous awards during her career. The collection includes correspondence, photographs, and printed materials that document her artistic works and awards received, including a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1997.   • Clarke, Powhatan. Diary, 1862-1863. 1 vol. Location: M:18. Surgeon, professor of chemistry, and aide-de-camp to Brigadier General D. M. Frost during the Civil War. Colonel David French Boyd was a captain of engineers on General Richard Taylor's staff (1863). Diary includes Clarke's round trip from Rapides Parish, Louisiana, to Camden, Arkansas. Later entries by Boyd include his military and topographical notes of the area between Sicily Island, Catahoula Parish, and Waterproof, Tensas Parish, Louisiana.   • Clary, Hiram T. Papers, 1862-1889. 9 items. Location: Misc:C. Surgeon and physician of the 32nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Co. K. Papers include military records concerning promotions; orders to report to Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Little Rock, Arkansas; discharge paper (1864); and a notice from the pension office. Their son, Charles Leonhardt Fischer, was a Confederate veteran, attorney, and politician of St. Francisville. Journal records expenses for goods and services of local residents and plantation owners and managers, including members of the Turnbull, McKowen, Stirling, Barrow, Joor, Weems, and other families.   • Claussen, Francis F. Letters, 1883 January-June. 9 items. Location: Misc:C. Native of Boston, Massachusetts, and an assayer at the United States Mint at New Orleans beginning in 1885. Dr. Benjamin Silliman, a chemistry professor, organized the Sheffield Scientific School at Yale University. Letters from Claussen to Silliman concern an investigation of the assayer's department; a visit by the Canadian metallurgist, James Douglas; mineral samples from the King Mine in New Mexico; and deposits of gold and other minerals in Honduras.
