De Caro and Jordan were folklorists, authors, and Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, La.) professors. The collection includes personal and professional correspondence, writings, exhibitions, photographs, printed items consisting of brochures, handbills, newspapers, and posters; and topical files that document de Caro's folklore class at LSU, his work with the Louisiana Folklife Commission, and Jordan's work with the women's movement. Available on microfilm 5750: University Publications of America Southern Women and Their Families in the 19th Century: Papers and Diaries Series E, Reels 4-5. Resident of New Orleans; daughter of James and Zoe Lambert Campbell and sister of Lambert Campbell, a Confederate soldier in the Civil War. Diaries document expenses, condolence visits, and piano lessons. Beginning in May 1861, they deal with the Civil War, including events in occupied New Orleans. Papers discuss the Civil War; plantation life; Thomas Butler's judicial and political career; and antebellum life in the Gulf South states. Included is correspondence from prominent Louisiana residents and others. Texada family. Papers, 1856-1999 (bulk 1865-1898). 1 linear foot, 4 oversize folders. Location: 19:9, OS:T. The Texada family, originally from Spain, immigrated to Natchez, Mississippi. In 1864, they moved to Rapides Parish, Louisiana, where they were significant landholders and planters. This collection consists of correspondence and genealogical materials. The genealogical materials include research and notes, newspaper clippings, photographs, copies of vital records, and excerpts from publications relating to the Texada family and the extended family including the Ker, Davidson, Pintard, Landers, Hickman, Luckett, and Peyton families. The bulk of the correspondence is from the Civil War period and is written to Margaret Ker Davidson Texada. The letters are predominately from Charles V. Cosby, her cousin; Joseph Welsh Texada, her husband; and John Pintard Davidson, her father. Mss. 5119.

Lytle, Andrew D. Family collection, circa 1824-1981 (bulk 1880-1915).  2.5 linear ft., 25 volumes, 50 artifacts. Location: 5:, 17:, OS:L. Photographer of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This collection contains family papers, printed items, photographs, and artifacts relating to the Andrew D. Lytle family and the related Dickinson family. Family papers relate to family matters and genealogy. Printed items include newspaper clippings, prayer books, poetry, and picture postcards. Postcards were produced as souvenir postcards and depict scenes in Louisiana, Colorado, Ohio, and Winnipeg, Canada. Some postcards depict African-Americans as childlike (circa 1905). Photographs are in multiple formats that were produced professionally consisting of individual portraits and group photographs, including LSU cadets (1910-1911). Of note is a scene of a large African American group gathered at a river for a baptism (circa 1905). A variety of objects comprise the artifacts. They include jewelry, an evening bag, textiles, buckles, a flute, pins, and ribbons. Several artifacts represent chapters of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias. Mss. 5207.

Payne, Lutrill Amos, Sr. Scrapbook, 1951-1988 (bulk 1951). 1 scrapbook. Location: 19:10. Lutrill Amos Payne Sr. filed suit to integrate the Louisiana State University Graduate School to study agriculture. He won a judgment in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana in 1951. This 15-page scrapbook kept by Payne contains clippings, telegrams, and other items documenting his legal efforts to enroll in the Louisiana State University Graduate School and his attendance there in the summer of 1951. A smaller number of items concern events in Payne's life between 1953 and 1988. Mss. 5086.

Description
Barrow, Cordelia Johnson, 1816-1845. Family papers, 1834-1894. 9 letters, 1 eulogy. Location: 19:10. Cordelia Johnson Barrow was the daughter of Philo S. Johnson and Anna Maria Johnson of Watertown, New York. She was educated at Mrs. Willard's Academy for Young Ladies in Troy, New York. Following her graduation, she took a teaching position in Camden, South Carolina. Later, she met her husband, Wylie Micajah Barrow, in St. Francisville, Louisiana, when she was hired as a tutor for the Barrow family. The Cordelia Johnson Barrow family papers contain correspondence from Cordelia Johnson Barrow and her descendants. The letters are generally written from either Louisiana or Watertown, New York. Included in the papers is a letter from Martha Johnson Robertson Barrow to her grandmother, Martha Johnson Pope, regarding the family's flight from Baton Rouge to Tickfaw, La., after their Baton Rouge home was taken by the Union Army. There is a eulogy for Cordelia Johnson Barrow written by an unknown author and two letters from Cordelia Johnson Barrow to her family regarding her experience traveling to South Carolina when she was a teacher. These letters describe her "dangerous" trip, including a description of New York City, the steamboat ride, yellow fever outbreaks, the railroad, and the swamp. There is also a letter from Martha Johnson Robertson Barrow to her daughter, Leila, that includes advice on home medical remedies, and a letter from an unknown brother to his sister telling of a bad storm in Baton Rouge.
