Turpin, White. Letter, 1813 Dec. 31. 1 item. Location: Misc.:T. Last sheriff of the Mississippi Territory and the first sheriff of Adams County, Miss. Letter informs Capt. Daniel T. Patterson, a U. S. naval officer commanding the New Orleans Squadron, of the legal action and the Court decision regarding a runaway slave by the name of Moses. Hawkes, Joshua Gilman, 1831-1863. Letters, 1862-1863. 21 letters. Location: Misc. Joshua Gilman Hawkes of Lynnfield, Mass., served in the 52nd Massachusetts Infantry Regiment and took part in the occupation of Baton Rouge and the siege of Port Hudson. This collection consists of transcriptions of letters written by Hawkes from Louisiana describing his encampment in Baton Rouge in January-March, participation in the Teche campaign of April-May, and the siege of Port Hudson in June-July 1863. The packet ship Huntsville (523 tons) sailed with the Louisiana & New York Line of packet ships, sailing twice monthly in season between New York and New Orleans. Like morning glories ever blooming : an informal anthology of several essays by Lewis P. Simpson, 2001. 0.1 linear ft. Location: UU:198. Consists of a bound volume with photocopies of several of noted LSU English faculty member and Southern literature scholar Lewis P. Simpson's published essays and articles. Also contains published writings about Simpson, a speech given on his behalf at the 1991 Modern Languages Association Convention, and several pieces of correspondence between Simpson and anthology compiler Anthony G. Tassin. Tassin was a former student of Simpson's and completed the compilation in 2001 after years of correspondence and selecting items to include in the anthology. Mss. 5065.
