United States. Army. Maine Infantry Regiment, 14th (1861-1865). Company orderly book, 1862-1863. 1 orderly book. Location: H:6. The 14th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment served in Louisiana between May 1862 and July 1864 and later served in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Georgia. This orderly book contains handwritten orders and company logs kept between November 1862 and November 1863, as well as printed general orders issued between January and March 1863. Mss. 4253.

Description
Ridleman Letter, 1819 Dec. 12. 1 letter. Location: Misc.: R. A letter written by a Mr. Ridleman to "Ogden" describes the capture of eighteen of Jean Lafitte's pirates by two U.S. revenue cutters. Ridleman writes that guards patrolled New Orleans in order to prevent a rescue of the pirates. He reports that the Creole guards were unable to capture three other of Lafitte's men in the New Orleans neighborhood of Faubourg Marigny. He tells that he participated in the patrol of the city, and he describes the various crimes, which occurred. In other news, he writes that the good prospects of the newly formed firm of Ridleman and Burke ended when Mr. Burke succumbed to the "fatal climate." He also describes the newly opened Theatre d' Orleans, and its gambler owner, Mr. Davis. The Theatre d' Orleans was the most important opera house in New Orleans in the first half of the 19th century.

The Louisiana society had been reorganized at a meeting held in Rosedale, La., on May 31, 1964. Description
Allendale Plantation Records, 1900-1996. 12 v. Location: 6:64-65, U:1. Henry Watkins Allen, the 17th governor of Louisiana established Allendale sugar plantation in West Baton Rouge Parish. In 1882, John and Martin James Kahao purchased the plantation, and their family successfully operated the plantation for most of the 20th century. The collection contains correspondence, minutes, labor records, and financial and legal documents. Papers also include brief histories of Allendale Plantation and the Kahao family. Photographs are comprised of family members, plantation buildings, plantation workers, and the cane fields. Mss. 3824.

Roberts, Robert. Papers, 1806-1852. 14 items. Location: Misc.: R. Robert Roberts was a joint owner of the cargo ship, EXPERIMENT. Papers relate to the capture of the EXPERIMENT by pirates while en route to Port Montego, Jamaica, and Roberts's claim for government compensation. Other papers pertain to Roberts's claim to a land grant in West Florida that was supposedly awarded by the British government to John and William Williams (July 28, 1836, March 17, 1840).
