These records consist of communications, leaflets, and newsletters documenting the organization of the East Baton Rouge Parish Association of Educators in the summer of 1978; a failed tax election on January 20, 1979, and a successful one the following May 19 for the purpose of granting pay raises for school employees; and a two-week strike for collective bargaining by East Baton Rouge Parish schoolteachers and maintenance workers in March 1979. Durell, as U.S. Judge for the District of Louisiana, orders Charles Claiborne to adjourn the U.S. District Court for the District of Louisiana for ten days.
