Papers also include a copy of an order issued by Richard Taylor concerning the Battle of Mansfield (1864), a program for the memorial service for Jefferson Davis held in New Orleans (1903), and manuscript notes concerning the United States Army occupation of New Orleans (undated).   • Kingsley, Z. (Zephaniah), 1765-1843. 'Treatise on the Patriarchal or Co-Operative System of Society, 1829. 1 item. Location: E:Imprints. Resident of Florida. Pro-slavery pamphlet puts forth the view that slaves may be as happy as whites under a just and benevolent system of rule. He uses the examples of Brazil and Haiti to demonstrate that slaves who are treated humanely are indisposed to revolt and prefer lives of tranquil labor over revolution and revolt. A ledger of Thomas Kington’s Expenses, shown by month, from January 1820 to March 1827.  After the death of Thomas Kington in 1827 his wife Charlotte took over the family finances, and from April 1827 to April 1844, at the time of her death, the ledger is labelled Charlotte Kington’s Expenses.   • Kinney, John C. (John Coddington), d. 1891. Letters, 1862-1864. 10 items. Location: Misc:K. Yale University graduate and Union officer in the 13th Connecticut Regiment during the Civil War. Letters provide detailed descriptions of his military service on Ship Island, in occupied New Orleans, and under General Grover during the Red River Expedition. They include observations on federal generals and Thibodaux, Louisiana, skirmishes. Two letters describe Kinney's assignment, training, and duties in the Signal Corps.   • Kirby, Thomas Austin. Oral history interview, 1982. 1 sound cassette (1 hour), Transcript (27 pages). Location: L:4700.31. Served as Chair of the Department of English at LSU from 1940 to 1973. Kirby is best known for his work Troilus: A Study in Courtly Love. Interview concerns Kirby's education in the 1930s, his work at the LSU English Department, and his colleagues. Research notes, correspondence, articles, exams, criticism, and phonograph records covering the period 1932 to 1988 document the professional life of Thomas Austin Kirby. The bulk of the collection is comprised of his research in Medieval and Victorian literature and its writers. Geoffrey Chaucer's work is paid particular attention, notably his CANTERBURY TALES. The letter is written on a semi-weekly summary of commercial statistics from the "New-Orleans Price-Current, Commercial Intelligencer and Merchants' Transcript." Mss. 3964.
