The Kleinpeter family emigrated from Germany and eventually settled in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, where they were farmers. Photocopies of family documents belonging to the George and John Kleinpeter families of Louisiana. These include survey maps, land grants, land transfers, birth and death records, estate papers, receipts, and miscellaneous items. The Sharp family is also mentioned as they relate to the Kleinpeters. Mss. 4897.

Papers include land records, slave sales, mortgages, and succession documents. A record book includes entries of slave births (1822-1852). There are also Civil War military papers and two Bureau of Refugees labor contracts (1865-1866). Some items in French. Early papers include dental bills and receipts; and the charter for the New Orleans Dental College. Post-1865 papers concern the Louisiana Dental Association and the New Orleans Dental College. Also included are personal papers. Papers of J. Rollo Knapp deal with his dental practice. Frederick H. Louisiana agriculturist and educator, contributed to the economic and agricultural development. Papers relate to the dedication of the Wilson and Knapp Memorial arches connecting the U.S. Agricultural buildings in Washington, D.C. and commemoration of the Golden Anniversary of Farm Demonstration by Texas A&M College and McNeese State College. Included are Ezra Taft Benson's remarks upon acceptance of the Seaman A. Knapp Silver Cup at the opening of the Cotton Exhibit; and a speech delivered by Henry Wallace at Knapp's funeral in Iowa.   • Kneeland, Ira. Land surveys, 1806. 2 land surveys. Location: MISC:K. Ira Cook Kneeland was born in Massachusetts. He was deputy land surveyor for Vicente Sebastian Pintado in Louisiana. He died around 1812. Includes two surveys by Ira Kneeland for parcels in New Feliciana by order of the Governor of Baton Rouge. One survey is for Isaac Johnson's property dated from October 16, 1806, and the second is for John Barnhill's property dated December 20, 1806. Mss. 5131.

Knighton was a private in the 4th Louisiana Infantry during the Civil War. Personal papers of the Knighton family consist chiefly of correspondence. Civil War letters of James H. Knighton describe Camp Neafus, Camp Lovell, Confederate deserters, campaigns at Vicksburg and Atlanta, and the Battle of Shiloh. Letters (1867-1886) describe the Chinese population of Lake Providence, East Carroll Parish, Reconstruction, and African American voters. Cotton planters of Clinton, East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, and proprietors of Clinton Brick and Tile Company and the East Louisiana Land Investment Company. Letters (1861-1863) from Granville L. Alspaugh to his mother describe his service in the Confederate Army at Vicksburg. Papers (1851-1893) also reflect social, personal, and business matters, including the sale of cotton through factors in New Orleans. Letters of Robert Granville Knox (1890-1899) describe student life at Louisiana State University, his partnership in a drugstore in Hammond, La., and his participation in the Spanish American War, with Roosevelt's Rough Riders. Later correspondence (1900-1921) include letters written to Miss Elise Walker by soldiers during World War I.   • Koch, Christian D. Diary, 1831-1836. 1 printed vol. Location: H:14. Merchant mariner who later settled on the Bogue Homa near Pearlington, Miss. Diary describes Koch's five-year travels as an apprentice to sea captains. Koch family was of Danish descent and settled near Pearlington, Hancock County, Mississippi. Christian Koch was a master of a schooner. Early correspondence describes farm life and operating a schooner on the Pearl River and along the Gulf Coast. Civil War letters describe the privations of war, and later papers detail the family's movements in Montana. H.P.G.
