Coggins, Paschal. Estate sale inventory, 1824 July 21. 1 inventory. Location: Misc. This inventory documenting the sale of the estate of Paschal Coggins, a cobbler of New Orleans, La., was compiled by Charles Byrne for the benefit of David Coggins of Philadelphia, Pa. David Coggins was represented by Samuel Grant and Joseph R. Jenks, also of Philadelphia. The estate was composed mostly of shoes that were sold in lots at various times during the year 1823 for $440.73. Mss. 3963.

Description
Galveztown Documents, 1777-1793. 29 items. Location: Misc.:G. Gilbert Antoine de St. Maxent was sent by Governor Bernardo de Gálvez in 1778 to settle Islenos (immigrants to Louisiana from the Canary Islands) at Galveztown, which was located at the junction of the Amite River and Bayou Manchac, to be a military stronghold against the British in West Florida. Galvestown soon lost its importance as a military post and began to decline from disease, floods, hurricanes, droughts, and high shipping costs. The present day community of Galvez, La., is located just west of the original Galveztown. Mss. 3990.

Jefferson, Thomas. Petition and court orders, 1860-1861. In a legal petition to the Common Law and Chancery Court of the City of Memphis, Thomas Jefferson explains his history and "prays to be permitted to convey himself into slavery" to his chosen mistress, Camille White (1860). Two orders by the same court command the sheriff of Shelby County, Tenn., to collect $12.15 from Jefferson and White to pay fees and costs owed to the court (1861). All three documents are signed by Marcus J. Wright, clerk of the court and future Confederate brigadier general. Mss. 3968.
