Hodges, Campbell B. Collection, 1899-1924. 0.3 linear ft. Locations: UU:315, OS:H. U.S Army general, military aide to President Herbert Hoover (1929-1933), president of Louisiana State University (1941-1944). The collection consists mostly of military medals and ribbons (undated). The collection also includes Campbell Hodges's appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point (June 10, 1899) and his diploma (June 11, 1903). Additionally, a letter describing a party hosted by the Italian ambassador is included (June 10, 1924). The letter is written on the back of the ambassador's invitation (June 9, 1924). Mss. 893.

Franklin, Benjamin Cromwell, 1805-1873. Brief, 1851. 1 brief. Location: MISC:F. Benjamin Cromwell Franklin was an attorney, judge, and legislator in Texas. The Benjamin Cromwell Franklin brief consists of one legal brief documenting the case of Nathaniel Bailey vs. Rachael Hicks. Rachael C. Hicks was sued for balances on accounts for supplies for her family, composed of William C. Hicks, her two daughters, two nieces, and some African Americans. Rachael was relieved from the charges because the purchases were made with the understanding that the accounts were being credited to a third party, Thomas Hicks of Louisiana. Mss.5129.

Description
Tessier, Charles, born 1775. Charles Tessier Estate Inventory, 1825 May 21. 1 estate record. Location: OS:T. Born in New Orleans, La., Charles Tessier served as a clerk under four Spanish governors prior to the cession of Louisiana to the United States. He was subsequently appointed notary public of New Orleans. In 1812, he received the appointment of a captain of the infantry by United States President James Madison. He later served as judge of East Baton Rouge Parish from 1815 to 1845. The estate inventory consists of an inventory and appraisment written by Charles Tessier on the household items and slaves owned by James Stuart. Mss. 5134.

McVeigh, George W. Diary and Letter, 1863-1893 (bulk 1863-1864). 3 v., 1 letter. Location: V:62. Private in the U. S. Army Ohio Volunteer Infantry, 63rd regiment, Co. G. Diary, in two volumes, document the history of the 63rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Co. G, from May 1, 1863 until Dec. 31, 1864. Entries provide a daily account a soldier's life, the regiment’s march from Memphis through Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and Kentucky, and engagements with Confederate troops. Recurring topics include military campaigns, weather, camp life, disease, and war news. Entries also relate to the confiscation of livestock, the availability of food, deserters on both sides, enemy infiltrators, war refugees and slaves. A letter (May 3, 1863) and a roster of the 63rd Ohio Regiment (1893) accompany the diary. Mss. 3871.

Murray, J. Ogden, 1840-1921. Letter and Booklet, 1911. 2 Items. Location: MISC:M. Major in the Confederate Army. He was in the 7th Virginia Cavalry and was captured at Gettysburg. He was a war prisoner and detained by the Union Army on Morris Island in South Carolina. The letter and booklet include one letter to General John E. Roller from J. Ogden Murray referencing Murray's booklet, Jefferson Davis: A Short Story of the Confederate Soldier, the Ideal Soldier of the World (1911), which is also included. Mss. 5135.

Zielinski requested the F.B.I. documents included in this collection under the Freedom of Information Act in 1988 to be used in research for a publication. These F.B.I. documents relate the F.B.I.'s investigation into the shooting that occurred on May 15, 1970 at Jackson State College in Jackson, Mississippi. The papers consist of copies of memorandums, correspondence, news clippings, and reports made and collected by the F.B.I. during the investigation. Mss. 4223.

Prosser family. Prosser Family Papers, 1863-1974. 1 Letter. Location: MISC:P. Born in Mississippi, William and Ralph Hylton Prosser were the sons of Daniel Launcelot Hylton Prosser and Sarah Eleonor Lewis. Ralph and William served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. The family papers contain a letter, two newspaper clippings, and an obituary. William Hylton Prosser wrote the letter to his sister during his time as a Confederate soldier in the Civil War. The obituary is for Reverend Ralph Hylton Prosser. One newspaper clipping is a letter written by Dorothy Prosser Sims and both newspaper clippings discuss a Civil War monument in Innis, Louisiana.
