Camp & Galloway Brief, 1860. 1 brief. Location: MISC:C. Camp & Galloway were attorneys in Upshaw County, Texas. This is Camp & Galloway's brief of A.J. Brinson and Laura Brinson vs. John P. Cunliff and his wife. The lawsuit concerns the distribution of the John H. McNary estate, which included land and slaves. The Cunliffs accused the Brinsons of taking more than their share of the estate and failing to pay back the surplus. Mss. 5128.

Louisiana. Militia. Saint James Parish Regiment Records, 1861- 1862. 15 items. Location: MISC:S and OS:S. The St. James Regiment was formed as a part of the Louisiana Militia of the Confederate Army during the American Civil War (1861-1865). This collection contains a partially printed document appointing Victor Forstall as "Major of the St. James Regiment" of the Militia of Louisiana, dated April 7, 1861, signed by Governor Thomas Moore and Secretary of State Pliny D. Hardy. It also contains 14 manuscript muster rolls for companies A,B,C,D,E, and F of the St. James Regiment, dated April 1861 through March 1862, which were written in English and/or French. A watercolor drawing of a house in the 900 block of Customhouse Street (name changed to Iberville Street in 1904) between Burgundy and Dauphine in the Vieux Carré of New Orleans, La., includes a plat showing the location and dimensions of the house and lot. Typed copies of letters to Dr. Edward Duffell of Lafourche, Louisiana, from his father, Edward Duffell, Sr., of Lynchburg, Virginia, and his brother, John L. Duffell, a lieutenant in the Virginia Militia stationed in Richmond. Letters relate family news and give reports of the capture and burning of the capitol and other public buildings in Washington, D.C. and the capture of the British fleet on Lake Champlain by Commodore Thomas Macdonough. Harrison, James P. (James Parmenas), 1852-1943. Papers, 1878-1904. 4 Items. Location: MISC:H. James P. Harrison was from Tensas Parish, Louisiana and his parents were David Harrison and Mary Ann Brisco. He married Ella Nichols in 1891. The papers include a tintype of James P. Harrison, a typescript and handwritten copy of "The Uprising in Tensas Parish (1878)" written by Harrison, and a letter by Harrison on how labor shortages impact cotton prices. "The Uprising in Tensas Parish (1878)" tells the story of Harrison's involvement in a sheriff's posse in Waterproof, Louisiana. Mss. 5138.

Harris, R. B. Photograph Collection, 1890-1958. 121 items. Location: C:96. Robert B. Harris was a resident of Walnut Grove Plantation, Cheneyville, Louisiana. Collection is comprised of photographs taken of buildings, livestock, sugar cane fields, cotton fields, and several individuals, mostly unidentified. Also included in the collection are portraits of Annie Laurie Harris and N. B. Harris; four miniature paintings depicting rural Louisiana scenes; and a 20th century transcription of a letter presumably written Dec. 26, 1873. Mss. 3060.

Manuscript Collections Webre-LeBlanc Family Papers.
Description
Webre-LeBlanc Family Papers, 1820-1986 (bulk 1912-1936). 0.5 linear ft. Location: 40. The Webre and LeBlanc family members owned and operated many plantations and general stores in south Louisiana. The Desire LeBlanc Plantation was known for producing perique tobacco, and his daughter Alcidie was a sugar farmer with her husband Louis S. Webre. Edward C. Webre was one of the first graduates of the Audubon Sugar Institute, and Frank Sevin worked for the Webre-Steib Co. Ltd. which operated the Golden Ridge Plantation. The Webre-LeBlanc Family Papers consist of correspondence, receipts, photos, ledgers, and genealogy information. These papers document the Webre-LeBlanc family ties and business interactions from 1820 to 1968. Mss. 4145.

The collection contains a slave bill of sale for "Joe," who was sold in East Baton Rouge Parish, La., by the estate of Peter McKitrick to Richard H. Burke (March 25, 1854). Other items include a cabinet photograph of Joseph "Uncle Joe" Israel, Sr. (1892) and an issue of the WEEKLY HERALD, published by the Bethel African Methodist Church of Baton Rouge, which contains the obituary of Joseph Israel (Jan. 26, 1901). Description
Butler, Thomas, 1785-1847. Cottage Plantation records, 1795, 1915. 2 items. Location: OS:C. The Butler family planted cotton and sugar in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, and resided at Cottage Plantation. Cottage Plantation, built throughout the years 1795 to 1859, was originally acquired by a Spanish land grant. Around 1810, this plantation and others in the West Feliciana and Terrebonne Parishes came under the ownership of Thomas Butler (1785-1847), who was a judge and a member of Congress. Following Thomas Butler's death, his family continued to operate the plantations. The Cottage Plantation records include a Spanish land grant (1795) for what later became Cottage Plantation and a deed (1915) for the sale of Cottage Plantation from Thomas Butler, et al. to Robert O. Butler, et al. English and Spanish. Mss. 5099.

Description
Roman, André Bienvenu, 1795 – 1866. Photographs, circa 1850 - 1890. 8 items. Location: Misc:R. Roman served as governor of Louisiana for two terms, 1831-1835 and 1839-1843. Roman married Aimee Francoise Parent in 1816 with whom he had eight children. He is buried on his family estate in St. James Parish. Included are five cartes-de-visite of André Bienvenu Roman, one cabinet card portrait of Roman which has been retouched, and one cabinet card portrait of his wife, Aimee Francoise. Two of the cartes-de-visite are mourning portraits. The collection also contains a cabinet card portrait of Alfred Hennen (1786 – 1870). Hennen was a distinguished lawyer, professor of constitutional law at University of Louisiana (now Tulane) and director of the old Bank of Louisiana. Mss. 5170.

The collection consists of personal papers, printed items, photographs, and badges relating to the activities of Daisy Kidd Clark, family members, and the genealogy of the Kidd family and allied Betz and Gruenwald families. Personal papers and printed items also include material that relates to the Delta Omicron fraternity, the American Hemerocallis Society, and the independent Order of Odd Fellows. Notable is a the sale of a sale of a ten-year-old mulatto girl who had been born to a slave imprisoned in the Louisiana Penitentiary, East Baton Rouge (May 4, 1861) and a 19th century Japanese print. Frellsen, Henry and Family. Collection, ca. 1836-1984. 0.25 linear ft. Location: B:7. Hans Hinrich Frellsen, later known as Henry Frellsen, was born in Flensburg, Denmark, on April 1, 1803. He participated in the liberation of Greece in the 1820s and later was a merchant, ship-owner, and estate owner in Denmark. Frellsen immigrated to Louisiana and founded the town of Copenhague in Caldwell Parish. He later was a businessman and Danish consul in New Orleans and owner of Fairview Plantation in St. Charles Parish. Henry Frellsen died in New Orleans on Sept. 17, 1884. Collection consist of photocopied documents concerning the ancestors and descendants of Henry Frellsen. Mss. 3872.
