Norton, Caroline. Letter. Circa 1876. 1 letter. Location: Misc.:N. Caroline Norton was an English feminist, social reformer, and author of the early and mid-nineteenth century.  In 1877, she married Sir W. Stirling Maxwell of Keir House, Dunblane in Scotland.  A letter from Caroline Norton in Edinburgh discusses an original musical composition.  She provides her future address as Keir House in Dunblane.  Mss. 822.

Description
Mercer, William Newton. Slave List and Inventory, 1846-1848. 2 items. Locations: Misc.:M, OS:M. Plantation owner of Adams County, Mississippi. A booklet titled "List of Negroes" lists the names and ages of slaves, and in some cases the names of parents and other family members at William Newton Mercer's Buckhurst, Ellis Cliffs, Ormande, and Laurel Hill plantations (1846-1848). Lists date from 1846 with later notations in 1847 and 1848. Also included is an inventory of clothing distributed to sailors aboard the USS Jamestown (ca. 1845-1847). Inventory is signed by Master Wilmer Shields who later served as the manager of Mercer's plantations. Mss. 5210.

Description
Ward, John Langdon. Lantern Slides Collection, ca. 1800. 107 glass lantern slides. Location: 65:09. John Langdon Ward served with the 19th Corps through the siege of Port Hudson and was commissioned Major of the 3rd Infantry Corps d'Afrique (the third regiment of African-American troops in the United States, changed to 75th United States Colored Infantry July 24, 1863). Collection consists of 107 glass lantern slides (3.25" x 4.00") documenting the aftermath of the Siege of Port Hudson, La., May 23-July 9, 1863. Material includes literary papers submitted to Marilla for review and editing, bibliographies, and reprints of works written or edited by Marilla. There is also a galley proof for Marilla's MILTON AND THE MODERN MAN. Mingo Family African American Photographs, 1877-1955 (bulk: 1887-1915). 33 items. Location: 65. The collection consists of thirty-two photographic images of unidentified African Americans, believed to be members of the Mingo family of Port Allen, La., and one empty photograph album.  Includes cabinet card portraits of men, women, and children taken at unidentified studios and by photographers in Baton Rouge and Plaquemine, La., as well as real postcards and photographic prints made in Hot Springs, Arkansas; Cairo, Illinois; New Orleans, La.; and St. Cloud, Minnesota. It is possible that some of the individuals in the images are members of an African American theatrical troupe specializing in minstrel shows. Mss. 5113.

Short Kenneth R. M. Lantern Slide and Motion Picture Film Collection, circa 1895-1960 (bulk: 1914-1916). 710 items, 1.5 linear feet. Location: 145:18-20; 146:12. This collection consists of 710 lantern slides contains series covering World War I, Ireland, Politicians, Life, and a few entertainment series such as Puss and Boots, Reynaud the Fox, and St. George and the Dragon and a series of long, hand-painted "story" slides. Description
Chandler, Thomas W. Papers, 1983-1985. 2.8 linear feet. Location: 48:22-23, OS:C. The collection contains materials gathered for Chandler’s landscape architecture thesis analyzing one-hundred ninety identified residences in Spanish Town, the oldest neighborhood in Baton Rouge, La. (established 1805).  The thesis was completed in 1985. The materials consist of completed and uncompleted questionnaires used to survey residents, audio tapes of interview with residents, color photographic prints and negatives of the residences, black & white photographic negatives and contact sheets, and black & white photographic prints used as illustrations in the thesis. Printed materials include items created for an exhibition associated with the thesis, three Spanish Town newsletters, and a “presentation copy” of the thesis itself.

Sanchez Ledger, circa 1910-1930. 11 cards, 7 ledger sheets. Location: Misc.:S. Spanish immigrant and rural storekeeper of Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. Loose ledger sheets and picture writing cards of an unidentified Spanish immigrant and rural storekeeper of Lafourche Parish, La. The ledger sheets contain picture writing that employs symbols and codes to denote the type of good sold (e.g., eggs, hardware) and the quantity purchased by customers. A separate group of small cards imprinted with the same symbols featured in the ledger perhaps served as a kind of reference code or key. For further information, see online catalog. Mss. 1755.
