Description
Pearson, H.M. Epitaph book, 1862. 1 notebook. Location: 31:. A notebook containing handwritten copies of epitaphs found in various churchyards. Many of the epitaphs are undated, but those which are dated range from 1512 to 1836. Epitaphs were taken from graves in churchyards and cathedrals throughout the United Kingdom, including locations in Bath, Cambridge, Derbyshire, Devon, Essex, London, Surry, and the Isle of Wight. The vast majority of the epitaphs in the book are written in English, but there are several written in French or Latin.  Mss. 1350.

Masters, Joseph. Autograph collection, 1855-1873. 1 volume. Location: 31:. Joseph Reynolds Masters (1795-1863) was a publisher and bookseller in London, England. This is a collection of short handwritten notes, handwritten letters, printed newspaper clippings, printed text, and one photograph dated between from May 7, 1855, to 1873 and pasted onto the pages of a notebook by Joseph Reynolds Masters. There are also 47 loose items including correspondence and notes from customers and acquaintances. Mss. 1350.

Ludlow, Elizabeth. Exercise Book, 1804. 1 notebook. Location: 31:. A notebook belonging to Elizabeth Ludlow and dated April 1804 filled with short writing exercises covering topics such as virtue, religion, passion, and life.  The majority of the notebook is filled with writings under the heading “Detached Sentences and Paragraphs” while the other portion of the notebook has shorter writings of a page or two each under the headings “Rapidity of Time,” “Contentment Exceeds Riches,” and “Generous Emulation.” Mss. 1350.

A ledger of Thomas Kington’s Expenses, shown by month, from January 1820 to March 1827.  After the death of Thomas Kington in 1827 his wife Charlotte took over the family finances, and from April 1827 to April 1844, at the time of her death, the ledger is labelled Charlotte Kington’s Expenses. Description
Clothing Inventory, 1821. 1 notebook. Location: 31:. A partially filled notebook from an unknown author which lists clothing and accessories, grouped by categories and occasionally with dates, ranging from 1821 to 1827.  The categories include linen, flannel, lace, bonnets and hats, silk handkerchiefs, morning dresses, evening dresses, and jewels.  A second, shorter list from 1827 includes linens, morning dresses, silk dresses, caps, collars, and cloaks.  After several empty pages, there is a page titled “Baby” that lists clothes for a baby.  The rest of the notebook is empty. Description
Dashwood vs. Rous Legal Notebook, 1811. 2 volumes. Location: 31:. A transcript of short-hand notes taken in the Court of Chancery for the case of Reverend James Dashwood vs Lord John Rous. Sir Samuel Romilly states that the case revolves around the wills of Sir Thomas Peyton and his nephew, Sir Henry Dashwood Peyton, which would provide a living for Mr. James Dashwood, brother of Sir Henry Dashwood Peyton, upon their estates in Doddington, Cambridgeshire, England if certain terms were met including James Dashwood accepting a Bishopric.  At question was whether or not Mr. Dashwood was owed any further rights to a living on the Doddington estates as the conditions specified in the wills, including the acceptance of a Bishopric, had not been met. A sermon titled Christ the Church's Beloved written by an unnamed author and preached on May 7, 1769 at an unnamed church in Branford. The sermon starts with a reading from "Solomon's Songs" 5:16, which is also known as the Song of Songs 5:16. There is a recurring reference to the phrase "This is my beloved" throughout the text, describing Christ and the Church, and the sermon includes references to several other biblical passages in its text. Mss. 1350.

Norris, Harry. Letter Book, 1746-1748. 1 letter book. Location: 31:. Captain, and later admiral, of the Royal Navy of Great Britain. A book of letters sent to Captain Harry Norris between the years of 1746 and 1748. The letters contain orders commanding him to move his ship to specific locations, details of the line of battle and signals of battle for different naval engagements, instructions on provisioning his ship, orders and instructions for the discharge of members of his crew, and other orders pertaining to the operation of his ship in the service of the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom. Description
Brent, Joseph Lancaster. Papers, 1862-1940 (bulk 1862-1904, 1926-1940). 1.3 linear ft., 12 volumes. Location: U:243-245. Maryland native, lawyer, and Confederate general. Joseph Lancaster Brent practiced law in Louisiana, Baltimore, and Los Angeles. Married to Rosella Kenner, he assisted in the management of his father-in-law, Duncan Farrar Kenner's, plantations. Brent served as a Brigadier General in the Louisiana Cavalry Brigade during the Civil War. Collection consists primarily of correspondence between Brent and his wife, Rosella, and published and unpublished writings, including manuscript and printed copies of "Memoirs of the War Between the States" (1940), "The Lugo Case" and "Capture of the Ironclad Indianola" (1926). There is also a diary written by Brent in 1862 during his service in the Civil War. Also part of the collection are the papers of Brent's daughter, Nanine M. Brent, including a personal diary, recipe book, and household hints. Louise, Countess of Albany. Letters, circa 1802-1820. 19 items. Location: 31:. Louise, Countess of Albany, was the wife of exiled Prince Charles Edward Stuart, "Bonnie Prince Charlie," Jacobite claimant to the British throne. Letters written to Elizabeth Cavendish, the Duchess of Devonshire, document the Countess of Albany's opinions on major political topics and current events, including Napoleon's exile and the political situation in Italy following Napoleon's occupation. The letters also discuss Louise's daily life and activities, and many of the two women's friends, who include notable figures such as Cardinal Ercole Consalvi, Madame de Staël, Lady Charlotte Bury, and Lord Byron. Bennett, Anna Maria and Sir Thomas Pye. Letters, circa 1784-1785. 8 items. Location: 31:. Anna Maria Bennett was an English novelist. Bennett met Admiral Sir Thomas Pye while working in a chandler's shop. She became his housekeeper and mistress. Letters primarily document the resolution of a dispute between Anna Maria Bennett and Sir Thomas Pye regarding financial support for her and her children. One letter includes Bennett's threats of blackmail against Pye. The remaining letters record the negotiations between Pye and Bennett over the details of settling the dispute including one letter which includes Pye's response written in between the lines of Bennett's original letter. Letters are primarily addressed to Samuel Rose and document Charlotte Smith's efforts to resolve the legal dispute over her father-in-law's estate. Smith discusses the soured relationship between herself and George Wyndham, the third earl of Egremont, and his involvement in the dispute. Hackett, Horatio B. Receipt, 1846. 1 receipt. Location: MISC:H. Horatio Balch Hackett was born in Salisbury, Massachusetts, December 27, 1808. This is a receipt dated June 18, 1846 stating that the remainder of money due from John Ruggles for one quarter of the sale of real estate of the late Reverend Benjamin Wadsworth, $315.29, has been received by H. B. Hackett. The receipt also states that one fourth of all rent from said real estate has been received except from William Perley and Nelson Gardner, and that Mr. Hackett is due one quarter of said rents if they are ever collected.
