Judge of the First District of the First Circuit Court of Appeal of Louisiana and a resident of Ville Platte, La. His judicial files consist of reviews, opinions, judgments, briefs, dockets of cases, and other related records pertaining to causes and actions appealed from the district courts. Personal papers include correspondence concerning personal business and some family matters, copies of minutes of the LSU Board of Supervisors, correspondence, and testimony primarily related to the “Louisiana Scandals,” 1938-1944. Description
Norris, A. Wilson Scrapbook, 1886-1893. 1 volume. V:68. Alexander Wilson Norris, a lawyer born in Lewistown, PA, served in the Pennsylvania Infantry during the Civil War. His adopted nephew, Alexander Wilson Norris, Jr., was also a lawyer who served in the military. Scrapbook compiled by A. Wilson Norris Jr. titled "Pen Pictures of the War, written by A. Wilson Norris for 'The Philada News' and General Articles," consists of newspaper clippings of columns written by his father, mostly accounting his experiences during the Civil War. Mss. 5230.

Typed copies of 35 letters written to his wife, Katherine, dated between March of 1862 and April of 1864. Letters discuss various camps throughout the state of Louisiana, the health and condition of the troops, the war's progress, and Moore's worries for his family. Mss. 5231.

Freeland, Emile C. Papers, 1877-1986 (bulk: 1926-1967). 14 linear ft. Location: 77:35-48, OS:F. Chemical engineer for W. R. Grace & Co. and USAID. Collection includes technical reports compiled while Freeland was working for W. R. Grace & Co. and USAID, as well as pamphlets, notes, and printed articles related to the sugarcane, bagasse, and biofuel industries. Professional and personal correspondence, and photographs of W. R. Grace & Co. activities in Guyana, Ecuador, Pakistan, Israel, Taiwan, Colombia, and other countries are included. There are also personal photographs of Freeland during his travels, and of his family in Louisiana, as well as drafts and other material from "The History of the Book of Common Prayer up to 1662" and "Tales of a Sugar Tramp." Planter, jurist, state legislator, Confederate captain, and member of the law firm Fuqua and Kilbourne of East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. Letters from James O. Fuqua pertain principally to clients but also give some information concerning local politics and living conditions in Baton Rouge. Letters from others pertain to law suits and local politics. Included is a letter in which James O. Fuqua discusses the eagerness of some citizens to take the Amnesty Oath and civilian comments on the outcome of the Civil War, and the freedmen.
