Walworth, Douglas. Family Papers, 1806-1881 (bulk 1850- 1881). 189 items; 10 ms. vols. Location: U:234. 99:W, Misc.: W, O:21. Planter, attorney and Confederate Army captain from Natchez, Mississippi. Alexander Gordon was a Scottish immigrant to New Orleans, Louisiana. Correspondence includes letters from Walworth's parents while he was at Harvard University. His diaries describe his childhood, study and student life, and Confederate military experiences. Civil War papers concern Confederate military administration. Gordon family papers include documents on the estates of James Gordon and his wife, family correspondence, the American naturalization certificate of Alexander Gordon, and Alexander's diary. Foster, James. Family Papers, 1829-1904. 92 items, 7 ms. vols. Location: U:117. O:3. 1Medical doctor of Natchez, Mississippi, and owner of the Hermitage Plantation near Natchez. Correspondence consists chiefly of personal letters from family members concerning travel in the East; yellow fever in New Orleans; and plantation affairs. Some letters relate to student life at Oakland College (Mississippi) and Harvard University. Three manuscript volumes contain poetry and four record books concern a Confederate monument in Natchez, listing subscribers to a memorial fund (1888-1889). Jennings-Heywood Oil Syndicate records, 1900-1970. 16 linear feet. Location: 87:11-21, OS:J. Organized in 1901 by Walter Scott Heywood and five other Jennings, La. businessmen. Correspondence relates to the involvement of the Heywood brothers and their associates in the oil industry in Louisiana. Papers also reflect Walter Scott Heywood's political activities and his service on the Jefferson Davis Parish Rationing Board, the Louisiana State Mineral Board, and the Mermentau Basin Association. His speeches and autobiography are also included. Bills and receipts for equipment and supplies used by the Jennings-Heywood Oil Syndicate and its related companies are present. Henry Marshall was a cotton planter and a member of the Louisiana Senate. S. C. Furman, Marshall's son-in-law, was a medical doctor and officer in the Louisiana Second Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. Correspondence deals with politics, economics, agriculture, and the Civil War. Haymaker (Richard W.) collection on Yoshihiro Hattori, 1984-2016. 14 linear feet. Location: 2:22-28, OS:H. Yoshihiro Hattori was a Japanese foreign exchange student living with the Richard W. Haymaker family of Baton Rouge, La. He was shot and killed by homeowner Rodney Peairs. when he and Webb Haymaker mistakenly went to the wrong house looking for a Halloween party. Armed with a 44 Magnum revolver, Peairs shot the teen, claiming he feared for his life. The collection consists of correspondence, reports and studies on gun violence, civil trial testimony, and state and federal gun legislation. Also included are project and events files, printed items, audiovisual material, and the files of several activist organizations. The collection chronicles the death of Yoshi Hattori and the subsequent criminal trial of Rodney Peairs and a wrongful death suit brought against him by Yoshi's parents, Masaichi and Mieko Hattori. The collection follows the Haymakers' involvement in control gun, a speaking tour in Japan, and a meeting with President Bill Clinton and Masaichi and Mieko Hattori at the White House. Mss. 4698.

Randolph, John H. (John Hampden) 1813-1883. Family letters, ca. 1780-1860. 23 items. Location: W:3. Lawyer, planter, and circuit court judge. Randolph was born in Virginia and moved with his family to Wilkinson County, Mississippi, in 1819. In 1841 he moved to Iberville Parish, Louisiana, where he owned Nottoway Plantation. Letters written from Virginia, Georgia, Mississippi, and Louisiana by various members of the Randolph family discuss family matters, plantation crops, and the family's move from Virginia to Louisiana. Ashley-Cooper, Anthony. Letter, 1847. 1 letter. Location: Misc.:A. Anthony Ashley-Cooper (1801-1885) was the 7th Earl of Shaftesbury who went by the title Lord Ashley from 1811 to 1851 and then Lord Shaftesbury following the death of his father.  He became known as a political reformer and advocate for improving living conditions for the working poor, which led to his earning the nickname of "Poor Man's Earl."  This is a letter dated February 12, 1847 from Lord Ashley requests a copy of a document from a committee.
