Looking for acknowledgement, not apologies
MICHELLE HARRINGTON by Rainey Charbonnet, 2017
CHARBONNET: How do you feel about Georgetown’s decision to rename one of their buildings Isaac Hawkins?

HARRINGTON: [36:08] It’s the happiest thing. That was one of the things I asked when the president came. Because he asked, “What would you like us to do?”

I said, “I'd like a family reunion [laughs] sponsored by Georgetown.” And I said, “And I’d like for there to be some sort of remembrance or dedication for our ancestors.” Being a dedication , dedicating a building, or just an area where you go for peace and solitude, or just something in their honor. That’s all I wanted. It’s my understanding that there’s a part of what’s going to happen on the eighteenth is there’s going to be an official apology. It is what it is at that point. That’s not what I’m looking for. I’d rather there’d be just acknowledgement. Acknowledgement that it was wrong, and that we know better now. When you know better you do better. Link to Biography
