America needs to reconcile the legacy of slavery
MAXINE CRUMP by Dominique Angibeau, 2017
America just needs to wake up and recognize its slave legacy and how it is flourishing from it. This needs to become a core part of who America says it is and own this. Not just be trying to save the rest of the world, but to do whatever it takes to make life livable for those descendants of slaves. And I am a little bit sick of black people being blamed for this idea of “poor choices,” personal choices. Most of us, our ancestors didn’t even choose to come here, and now we’re hearing, “Oh, black people just make poor choices.” Well when did these poor choices start? So America needs to get its story straight and really, honestly, diligently do whatever it can to make sure that all of America has the fullness of what America says it is. One nation, indivisible. And we’re still divided by race. America has to fix that and stop pointing fingers at people who descended from slaves. Wrong finger pointing. The three fingers that’s pointing back at America are the ones that need to take ownership of. It needs to be at the institutional level, the government level, and all institutions that benefit and flourish. There’s no wealthy person in America that isn’t . . . that doesn’t owe part of its wealth to those who were enslaved. Link to Biography
